Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.ELEVATOR MECHANICWe are seeking a highly experienced Elevator Mechanic to join our Facilities and Infrastructure Engineering team at Starbase, TX. This role supports mission-critical operations by ensuring the reliable performance of advanced vertical transport systems, including high-rise, traction, and rack-and-pinion elevators. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise, leadership in troubleshooting, and the ability to operate autonomously in a high-paced, safety-focused environment.RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on vertical transport systems, including high-rise traction elevators and rack-and-pinion liftsTroubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system issues using diagnostic tools and schematicsConduct scheduled inspections in compliance with ASME A17.1/CSA B44, state codes, and local AHJ regulationsLead elevator modernization projects and major repairs in coordination with facilities engineering and vendorsRead and interpret technical drawings, control wiring diagrams, and OEM documentationUtilize CMMS platforms to document maintenance activities, inspections, and system health metricsInterface with internal engineering teams and external service providers to support uptime and system upgradesTrain and mentor junior elevator personnel and provide safety briefings during high-risk workSupport emergency and after-hours maintenance operations as requiredBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalency certificate3+ years of experience as a licensed elevator mechanic with experience in:Traction elevator systemsRack-and-pinion elevatorsHigh-rise vertical transport installationsCurrent state elevator mechanic license or certificationPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Proficiency in interpreting schematics and control logic for elevator systemsStrong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical wiring, and PLC-based elevator controlsExperience maintaining elevators in aerospace, industrial, or mission-critical facilitiesFamiliarity with rail alignment, car frame adjustments, and counterweight systemsAdvanced diagnostics using multimeters, laptops, and proprietary controller toolsOSHA 30 certification and experience with confined space or elevated workAbility to coordinate shutdowns, safety lockout procedures, and inspections under tight schedulesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to operate independently in remote or rugged site conditionsADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassistedMust be able to work in tight, elevated spaces, including elevator shafts and roof-mounted lift systemsMust be willing to work overtime, weekends, and on-call rotations as necessaryValid drivers license with a clean driving recordITAR REQUIREMENTS:To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
